Debating the Electric Shaver and Skin Irritation

So which is really superior, the electric shaver, the straight blade, or the disposable shaver? There are a number of criteria you should look at when trying to make this decision for yourself, but we clearly feel that the electric shaver is the way to go. In particular an excellent series to look at would be the Braun electric shavers. Here are some things to think about when comparing the three common types of shaving techniques today.

Both straight blades and disposable razors operate in the same basic fashion. A sharpened blade will pass over the skin, cutting hair that is growing in the opposite direction of the blade. They also scrape the skin causing it to become inflamed and often irritated. This is why it is common practice to use a lubricant like shaving cream or gel between the skin and the blade, to help reduce this skin to blade contact and therefore reduce irritation. As the blade dulls, hair is cuts less effectively and skin irritation increases. A second effect is that because the hair is cut less effectively, multiple passes must be made over the same patch of skin, double or tripling the amount of irritation caused.

With a truly effective Braun Electric Razor, the blades remain sharp throughout the course of the shave. There is no need for lubricant because in the Braun electric shaver parts bin, they've been able to employ the use of combs to lift the hair above the level of the skin, which the blade then cuts. Since the blade only makes contact with the hair and not your skin, it stays sharper much longer, often up to six to nine months. In addition this leads to having to make fewer passes over the same patch of skin with a Braun electric shaver and therefore doubles the effect of reducing possible skin irritation. This alone leaves us with the clear winner being an electric shaver when concerned with skin irritation.
